World Bicycle Day: Know about the observance and learn to draw a bicycle in four easy steps
The first official World Bicycle Day was observed on June 3 globally with various events. The observance was approved by the UN this year during the month of April.

It was on 12 April 2018, the observance got the worldwide recognition to be celebrated on June 3 to raise the ‘awareness about the multiple societal benefits of using the bicycle for transport and leisure’.

After the announcement of the World Bicycle Day by the UN, European Cyclists' Federation Secretary General Bernhard Ensink in his message stated, "Cycling is a source for social, economic and environmental benefits – and it is bringing people together.”

Thus, it was widely understood that cycling as means of transport contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.

One of the activities on the observance can be learning to draw a visual symbol of a bicycle successively.

The four steps to draw the visual code of the bicycle are: (1) Draw two parallel lines and an oblique short line; (2) Draw three circles –bigger ones to represent tyre wheels and the smaller one cog-chain wheel; (3) Draw the handle and the saddle; and (4) Draw rest of details like handle bars, paddles and the chain.

I think, the classroom instructors and kids will like this activity as it is related to cognitive learning of symbolism as a way of learning and making sense.
